Police Union Spanks Obama…
Police union condemns Obama’s comments
Yes, It’s about time that party going purveyor of putrid unAmerican programs pays the price for pontificating pompous pronouncements criticizing the Boston PD.
So, says the FOP:
The criticism comes after Obama said Cambridge police officers acted “stupidly” when they arrested Henry Louis Gates, a friend of the president’s, after he broke into his own home. Gates was arrested on disorderly conduct charges, which were then dropped. The president said it highlights ongoing problems with race relations in the U.S.
Jim Pasco, executive director of the FOP’s legislative office, noted that before Obama made the remarks, the president acknowledged that he was only vaguely familiar with what happened.
“That being the case, it’s unfortunate that he chose to say anything,” Pasco said. “He wasn’t there, and he doesn’t know what happened.” (ahem, he’s as useless an attorney as he is a CIC)
Pasco said it appears that Gates was the “provocateur” because he called Officer James Crowley a racist instead of producing identification as requested.
On Thursday, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs sought to walk back the president’s comments.
“Let me be clear. He was not calling the officer stupid, OK?” Gibbs told reporters on Air Force One. “He was denoting that … at a certain point the situation got far out of hand, and I think all sides understand that.”
Preferring to answer Gibbs’ rhetorical response: “NO IT’S NOT OK_ Bob!” The consensus of opinion IS Obama should have kept his mouth shut and stay out of local affairs. He spoke out of turn without knowing all the facts. Hardly presidential.
Mass. police unions ask Obama for apology
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE:CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A multiracial group of police officers stood with the white officer who arrested a black Harvard scholar and asked President Barack Obama and Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick to apologize for comments union leaders called insulting.
Officers say they resent any implication that race played a role in Sgt. James Crowley’s arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr. at his home near Harvard University last week.
At a news conference Friday, union leaders said Crowley acted appropriately when he arrested the scholar for disorderly conduct. Police say Gates flew into a rage when officers responding to a report of a burglary asked him to show identification.
Obama said the officers “acted stupidly.” Patrick, the state’s first black governor, said the arrest was “every black man’s nightmare.”
(In case you are unaware, Deval Patrick was Obama’s room mate in college…)
