Democratic Pollsters Drop Bombshell Request To President Obama: “Step Aside”
According to longtime Democratic Party pollsters Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen, if Barack Obama has any chance to win re-election in 2012, his campaign must engage in the most brutal campaign in the history of American politics. They then go on to suggest instead of doing that, Barack Obama should simply step aside in favor of who they deem the only politician now capable of saving both the country and the Democratic Party.
Caddell and Schoen point out that with Obama’s overall approval well below 50%, and his handling of the U.S. economy at or just below 40%, the prospects for a second term remain as difficult a path as any president has faced since Jimmy Carter in 1980. The president’s legacy is already one of repeated political gridlock, a climate created in great part by Barack Obama’s inability to communicate effectively with members of his own party, and even less so with the opposition. The rebuke of Obama is tough – but it’s also accurate. As the two pollsters so succinctly put it in their editorial – can President Obama honestly say the nation is better off than it was four years ago?
So who then do they suggest save both the country and the Democratic Party? Why none other than Barack Obama’s own Secretary of State of course – Hillary Clinton. Here is how the two Democrats put it in their own words:
He should abandon his candidacy for re-election in favor of a clear alternative, one capable not only of saving the Democratic Party, but more important, of governing effectively and in a way that preserves the most important of the president’s accomplishments. He should step aside for the one candidate who would become, by acclamation, the nominee of the Democratic Party: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
