When Americans Are Murdered Obama Calls It “Not Optimal”

October 19, 2012

Likely the most bizarre and detached responses by a national politician to a terrorist attack and resulting loss of life EVER. Four Americans killed. The first U.S. ambassador to be killed in the line of duty in 35 years. Blood stained walls, explosions, gunfire, followed by denial, confusion, and a now ongoing cover up by the Obama administration and the President of the United States simply refers to all of that as “not optimal.” Obama then goes on to say he’ll “fix” the deaths of four Americans? How does one “fix” the fact somebody has died? Does Barack Obama now believe himself capable of bringing back the dead?

(Apparently, nothing makes Barack Obama smile like the opportunity to speak about dead Americans…)

‘If four Americans get killed, it’s not OPTIMAL’: Obama’s extraordinary response to Comedy Central question about shifting story after Benghazi attack

President Barack Obama, during an interview to be shown on Comedy Central, has responded to a question about his administration’s confused communication after the Benghazi attack, by saying: ‘If four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal.

Stewart asked: ‘Is part of the investigation helping the communication between these divisions? ’Not just what happened in Benghazi, but what happened within.

‘Because I would say, even you would admit, it was not the optimal response, at least to the American people, as far as all of us being on the same page.’

Obama responded: ‘Here’s what I’ll say. If four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal.’

He continued: ‘We’re going to fix it. All of it. And what happens, during the course of a presidency, is that the government is a big operation and any given time something screws up.

Mother of Slain Diplomat To Obama – ” My Son Is Not Very Optimal – My Son Is Very Dead “

A clearly angry and disappointed mother of slain U.S. diplomat Sean Smith killed during a terrorist attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, fires back at Barack Obama’s remarks made on Comedy Central where he referred to the deaths of four Americans as “not optimal.”

The mother of an American diplomat killed during a terrorist raid on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi has hit out at Barack Obama for describing the attack as ‘not optimal’, saying: ‘My son is not very optimal – he is also very dead.’

During an interview shown on Comedy Central, Obama responded to a question about his administration’s confused communication after the assault by saying: ‘If four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal.’

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline today, Pat Smith, whose son Sean died in the raid, said: ‘It was a disrespectful thing to say and I don’t think it’s right.

‘How can you say somebody being killed is not very optimal? I don’t think the President has the right idea of the English language.’

“NOT OPTIMAL”: President Barack Obama, discussed the killing of four men in Benghazi while speaking to Jon Stewart, on The Daily Show.

NBC piles on the Benghazi-Gate bandwagon?

CBS (above) . . . now David Gregory.
    What’s going on?

“Meet The Press” host David Gregory on NBC’s “Today Show” this morning: “Well, right now there’s still a lot on Benghazi. You know, there were some missteps by Romney in the last debate about that, but as Chuck was just reporting, still more questions about what was known and when, about whether this was a terrorist attack and whether the administration came clean about it. The President’s being criticized for his – his talking points on this, on Jon Stewart saying when four Americans are killed it’s “not optimal,” that was in Stewart’s question. But nevertheless, this is not gonna be an issue that’s gonna go away. There’s still some confusion about how the administration response on this was both sluggish, sloppy and incoherent at some times, so I think this is gonna be a topic of conversation for sure.”

Nevada paper goes for Romney over Obama

(CNN) – Another swing state newspaper weighed in with an endorsement in the presidential race on Saturday.

The Reno Gazette-Journal threw its weight behind Republican nominee Mitt Romney, saying “Obama cannot avoid the consequences of poor decisions and misplaced priorities.” But the paper did so somewhat hesitantly.

    – Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker

    – Check out the CNN Electoral Map and Calculator and game out your own strategy for November.

“It wasn’t an easy decision. A recommendation against an incumbent can’t be taken lightly,” the paper wrote.

But in the two debates so far this month, “the president has shown little understanding of how his failures are affecting the nation, and he hasn’t offered any tangible proposals to change course.”

Obama’s primary failing was his focus on the health reform law, the Gazette-Journal opined. Meanwhile, the economy, and Nevada’s in particular, struggled.

In that vein, Romney has his work cut out for him, should he be elected, the paper noted.

“As president, Romney’s most important task will be to convince a recalcitrant Congress – including unhappy Democrats who will want to emulate the Republican blockade of the past few years – that there are good reasons to work with him,” the newspaper said. “We’re hopeful that his willingness to shift positions is the hallmark of a consensus builder who can work across party lines to govern the country effectively and not political expedience.”

Excerpts of the endorsement distributed by the Romney campaign largely left out the paper’s skeptical words of Romney. Among them: “The Republican candidate has shown a troubling willingness to shift his position on key issues, and the Romney who sat down with the Gazette-Journal’s Editorial Board in January did not appear to be the same one seen on the primary campaign trail, and that Romney seemed to be different than the one we saw at the two presidential debates held thus far.”

It previously endorsed Romney in his 2008 bid for the Republican presidential nomination. This year’s editorial noted that the paper considered Obama a “gamble” four years ago.

The Reno Gazette-Journal is the smaller of two daily papers in Nevada which has its circulation data tracked.

Major newspapers in Colorado, Florida and Utah announced their endorsements of Obama on Friday, and on Thursday, Romney picked up the backing of a significant Florida paper.

This kind of fits in with the news coming out- the WH watched the Benghazi attack LIVE for 6hrs as Stevens, and the 3 former Seals fought for their lives via a US Drone circling the compound location broadcasting the event to the WH as it was happening in Real Time.

    past Ulsterman report:

June 4, 2012 UM Report, part 2 about Barry being in trouble and therefore dangerous:

WHI …”…Obama don’t interrogate. He picks a name off a list…some of these people have been U.S. citizens…he picks that name off a list and orders the kill. Then he gets the video confirmation of the kill…and he watches it. Over and over and over again.

Jarrett knows she has got to tap that down. That kind of display…it’s repulsive to people. And it’s freaking them out. Jarrett don’t mind the drones…she approves of the program…she approves of what…of how they will be utilized at home. But if the president…if his reaction to using them…how he gets off on it…that endangers them having control of those drones after 2012…and beyond. “

Obama, Oy Vey! American Jews Finally Have Had Enough
    By Stella Paul

“Two Jews, three opinions” goes the famous joke. And every day, more of those opinions turn pro-Romney, as American Jews increasingly reject the collapsing presidency of Barack Hussein Obama.

Romney’s surging poll numbers in the crucial state of Florida reflect his growing success with Bubbie Molly and her unemployed grandson Adam, who both thought their right hand would wither if it ever pulled the lever for a Republican.

The signs and portents are everywhere, beginning with the special election of a Republican in Anthony Weiner’s heavily Jewish, New York congressional district one year ago. Now a startling new poll even has Romney performing the ultimate miracle: the parting of the blue states, winning the Jewish vote by a healthy 44% to 40%!

Florida activist Alan Bergstein described his recent experience advocating for Romney in the Jewish stronghold of Delray Beach. “Of about 100 entering and leaving the Bagel Tree eatery in that plaza, we ran into only two Democrats and loads and loads of Romney supporters. They stopped to talk to us, to congratulate us and to support us with their views of the Ryan/Biden debate. They were militant and fearless.”

What’s driving the Jewish exodus from the Democratic Party? Like everyone else, Jews are singing the bad economy blues. But they’re also increasingly acknowledging the uncomfortable facts about Obama’s hostility towards Israel and its Jewish supporters.

“Absolutely Uncertain,” a 20-minute YouTube video starring 23-year-old Irina, a disillusioned Obama voter who analyzes the president’s harsh treatment of Israel, racked up an astonishing 650,000 views in just three days. The Republican Jewish Coalition’s video, “Perilous Times,” is closing in on a million views, as anxious Jewish voters seek information outside the mainstream media to understand the accelerating nuclear threat to Israel from Iran.

And a new boldness is entering the Jewish conversation. The Simon Wiesenthal Center just publicly requested that Obama cut off all contact with the Muslim Brotherhood and condemn its anti-Semitic calls for jihad against Israel. “[Supreme Guide Mohammed] Badie’s rant confirms our long held view that Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood is the most dangerous anti-Semitic organization in the world today,” said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, the Center’s founder and dean and associate dean.

“We are not dealing with a YouTube video or a lone extremist Imam, but a call to anti-Semitic violence by a man who has tens of millions of followers and leads the organization that controls Egypt’s future. It cannot be business as usual in Washington when such an assault is launched against the Jewish people,” they added.

Since Obama’s foreign policy centers on courting the Muslim Brotherhood, he’s more likely to leave Michelle and run off with Sarah Palin than he is to honor Wiesenthal’s request. Nevertheless, a leading Jewish organization, founded by a survivor of the Nazi death camps to combat global anti-Semitism, has now publicly challenged the president on his dangerous foreign policies.

Because American Jews take huge pride in their role in the civil rights movement, rejecting Obama feels especially painful. Obama seemed to embody their dream of expanding opportunity to oppressed racial minorities, a goal for which two American Jews sacrificed their lives in the violent Freedom Summer of 1964.

But Obama’s failures grow too blatant to ignore, and so does his public antagonism to the only Jewish state. As Jews enter the sacred privacy of the voting booth, here are some images that will influence their choice:

The Democratic Party booing God and Jerusalem: At their national convention, Democratic leaders attempted to do undo the political damage of stripping all mention of God and Jerusalem as Israel’s capital from their party platform. But when they asked for a floor vote to add God and Jerusalem to the platform, the delegates loudly booed – three times. As the cameras revealed the hate-filled faces of the jeering delegates, some Jews felt frightened by the ugly scene.

Obama’s open contempt for Prime Minister Netanyahu: From the beginning of his presidency, Obama has seemed to enjoy humiliating Israel’s elected leader. He walked out on Netanyahu in the White House, claiming he had to eat dinner, and refused to pose for an official photograph with him. Now, as Iran races to complete a nuclear weapon, Obama rejected Netanyahu’s request for a meeting in New York, choosing to appear on The View instead. And when Netanyahu spoke at the United Nations, Obama instructed both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and UN Ambassador Susan Rice not to attend.

Fawning over the Jewish people’s enemies: Obama bowed to the Saudi king, gave a high-profile speech in Cairo, apologizing to the Muslim world, and ordered NASA to make “Muslim outreach” its foremost priority. Over the objections of Congress, he gave at least $1.5 billion to the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, which advocates for “holy jihad” against Israel. And when Muslim terrorists murdered our Libyan ambassador, Obama responded with a speech at the UN, in which he stated, “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”

Appointment of anti-Semites to high government positions: Obama just appointed a Muslim leader who blames Israel for the 9/11 attacks to serve as US delegate to a Warsaw human rights conference. Salam al-Marayati, president of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), openly supports Hizbollah and Hamas. Al-Marayati is only the latest of Obama officials hostile to Israel, including foreign policy advisor Samantha Power and UN Ambassador Susan Rice.

Obama’s long association with anti-Semites: Obama spent 20 years in the Chicago church of Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who maintains, “The state of Israel is an illegal, genocidal…place.” Obama’s biggest contributor is George Soros, who is a prime funder of anti-Israel NGOs. And Obama’s close association with Palestinian activist Rashid Khalidi is still being kept under wraps by the Los Angeles Times, which refuses to release a video of a reportedly inflammatory toast to Khalidi by Obama at a 2003 dinner. Breitbart News is offering a $100,000 reward to anyone with a copy of the tape.

Iran’s Growing Nuclear Capabilities: Obama has seemed more interested in deterring Israel from defending itself than in stopping Iran. His Chairman of the Joints Chief of Staff explicitly stated he doesn’t want to be “complicit” in an Israeli attack on Iran, implying such an attack would be criminal. Now counter-terrorism expert Reza Kahlili is reporting that Obama’s emissaries have struck a secret “October surprise” deal with Iran, in which Iran will announce a halt to their uranium enrichment, in order to enhance Obama’s presidential prospects. The deal reportedly was negotiated in Qatar with former Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Velyati, who’s wanted by Argentina for the Jewish community center bombing in Buenos Aires in 1994 that killed 85 people. If Obama has lost the trust of Jewish voters, they may not dismiss these reports as completely impossible.

As every day brings another “Oy vey!,” American Jews are finally fed up. It takes a lot or Democrats to lose their iron-grip on the Jewish vote, but this is one challenge Obama seems capable of meeting.

Do not read this article if you haven’t taken your bp meds yet this morning:

Suspect in Libya Attack, in Plain Sight, Scoffs at U.S.

BENGHAZI, Libya — Witnesses and the authorities have called Ahmed Abu Khattala one of the ringleaders of the Sept. 11 attack on the American diplomatic mission here. But just days after President Obama reasserted his vow to bring those responsible to justice, Mr. Abu Khattala spent two leisurely hours on Thursday evening at a crowded luxury hotel, sipping a strawberry frappe on a patio and scoffing at the threats coming from the American and Libyan governments.

Libya’s fledgling national army is a “national chicken,” Mr. Abu Khattala said, using an Arabic rhyme. Asked who should take responsibility for apprehending the mission’s attackers, he smirked at the idea that the weak Libyan government could possibly do it. And he accused the leaders of the United States of “playing with the emotions of the American people” and “using the consulate attack just to gather votes for their elections.”

Mr. Abu Khattala’s defiance — no authority has even questioned him about the attack, he said, and he has no plans to go into hiding — offered insight into the shadowy landscape of the self-formed militias that have come to constitute the only source of social order in Libya since the fall of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi. more @ link:

Obama campaign accepted foreign Web donation — and may be hiding more

The Obama re-election campaign has accepted at least one foreign donation in violation of the law — and does nothing to check on the provenance of millions of dollars in other contributions, a watchdog group alleges.

Chris Walker, a British citizen who lives outside London, told The Post he was able to make two $5 donations to President Obama’s campaign this month through its Web site while a similar attempt to give Mitt Romney cash was rejected. It is illegal to knowingly solicit or accept money from foreign citizens.

Walker said he used his actual street address in England but entered Arkansas as his state with the Schenectady, NY, ZIP code of 12345.

“When I did Romney’s, the payment got rejected on the grounds that the address on the card did not match the address that I entered,” he said. “Romney’s Web site wanted the code from the back of card. Barack Obama’s didn’t.”

In September, Obama’s campaign took in more than $2 million from donors who provided no ZIP code or incomplete ZIP codes, according to data posted on the Federal Election Commission Web site.

The Obama campaign said the FEC data was the result of “a minor technical error.”

“All the ZIP codes and numbers are real and can be verified,” spokesman Michael Czin said.

The Obama campaign’s apparent lack of safeguards makes it possible to violate the law, says a report released by the Government Accountability Institute, a Florida-based watchdog group.

The report found that one Obama site — — gets almost half of its traffic from foreign computer addresses. The site directs users to an Obama donation page.

“We are not suggesting that just foreign traffic by itself is a problem,” said Peter Schweizer, president of the GAI. “But for a campaign that is very sophisticated in its fund-raising capabilities, they do not make one effort to try to even see or ask somebody to check a box that says they are a US citizen.”

Obama’s re-election campaign took in $130,867 from donors who provided no ZIP codes and $2 million from those with incomplete ZIPs in September.

That same month, Romney’s campaign recorded $2,450 from donors without ZIP codes and $2,500 from those with incomplete ZIPs.

Walker said it should have been clear to the Obama campaign’s computers that his donations came from a computer with a foreign IP address.

The Obama campaign says it “screens all credit-card contributions that originate from a foreign IP address” and requests proof of citizenship if questions arise.

But not only did Walker’s Obama donations go through, but he said he began receiving two to three e-mail solicitations a day to give more. The e-mails asked for $188 or more.

If Walker gave $188, his total contribution to Obama would be $198 — less than the $200 threshold at which campaigns have to identify the donor to the FEC.

“I have not had any e-mails asking for proof of identity,” Walker said.

The GAI report found the Obama campaign Web sites do not ask donors to provide their three-digit card-verification value, or CVV, numbers to ensure they are the legitimate holders of the card. Romney’s campaign asks for such information, which is considered a standard security measure.

One conduit for Obama donations is, which was registered in 2008 to Robert Roche, an American who lives and works in China, where he owns an infomercial company.

Roche is also a bundler for the Obama campaign and was given a seat at the head table for a 2011 state dinner with the Chinese president

The GAI report said that the site registration was changed in 2010 to make it anonymous and that it was unclear whether Roche still owns it.

Roche’s mother in Chicago referred calls to the Obama campaign. The campaign declined to comment.

Tammy Baldwin has come under fire for taking a $60,000 contribution from the Council for Liveable World. In the October 18 debate with Gov. Tommy Thompson, Baldwin went on to deny having any knowledge of the group. The Council is a Pro-Iran operation that opposes sanctions against Iran and supports the current Iranian political regime.
The Council’s position on Iran reads:(emphasis added)
Unfortunately, United States policy has been to publicly threaten and insult Iran while taking provocative actions such as adopting a policy of regime change, attempting to increase unilateral sanctions, deploying additional military assets in the region, and arresting Iranian representatives in Iraq. Such policies are counterproductive, strengthening Iranian hardliners and weakening the position of anti-nuclear and pro-democracy elements in Iran.
Baldwin has been supported by the Council since 1988.
In fact, Baldwin recently flip-flopped on the issue of sanctioning Iran. Now that she has to answer to the state of Wisconsin in her Senate campaign, rather than her usual, more liberal constituency in Madison, Baldwin has flipped on her support for sanctions on Iran. According to Politifact, after opposing sanctions in 2006, 2009 and 2010, she did a 180 flip and voted for them in August of 2012.
This is not the first instance of Baldwin’s alliance with extremist and progressive causes. Baldwin, a longtime supporter of Nancy Pelosi , introduced a bill that would require children who used HHS services be interrogated as to their sexual preference.
Baldwin has stood consistently against the second amendment, rated with an “F” by both the NRA and Gun Owners of America. In 1996, Baldwin actually voted against inserting the phrase “right to keep and bear arms” in the Wisconsin State Constitution. In 2008, she voted to uphold the restrictions on firearm possession in Washington DC. (H.R. 6842, CQ Vote #601 )
In a move that defies all logic, Baldwin voted against a House resolution that would commemorate the Americans murdered on 9/11. (H. Res. 994, CQ Vote #440) The resolutions reads “Adoption of the resolution that would express the sense of the House recognizing Sept. 11 as a day to remember those who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks, extend sympathies to their loved ones and honor those who aided the victims and risked their lives following the attacks.”
In addition, Baldwin co-sponsored legislation to block funding of body armor for US troops. A pro-Israel advocacy group recently made a large ad buy in Wisconsin, highlighting Baldwin’s foreign policy positions, which includes accusing Israel of war crimes.
Rasmussen reports Baldwin with a small lead over her opponent, Governor Tommy Thompson. Perhaps the voters of Wisconsin aren’t familiar with Baldwin’s record?

Could’nt make it up…Lesbian Dem senate candidate supported by Pro-Iranian group which would have her stoned to death in Iran. Strange Bedfellows.

Ultimate power couple — the Clintons — head to Haiti

    By Jacqueline Charles

    Bill and Hill

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, shown here at the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, will travel to Haiti on Monday to inaugurate a $300 million U.S.-financed industrial park.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to northern Haiti on Monday, where she and husband, former President Bill Clinton, will inaugurate a new $300 million industrial park.

They will be joined by Haitian President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, as well as several businessmen the Clintons hope will decide to expand operations to Haiti to create desperately needed jobs.

It is the Hillary Clinton’s first visit to the north and comes nearly a year after her husband, who also serves as U.N. special envoy to Haiti, helped break ground on the controversial project. Called the Caracol Industrial Park, it is located on 600 acres in rural Haiti, just east of the country’s second largest city, Cap-Haitien. Environmentalists and others have objected to its location on once prime agriculture land and near a fragile ecosystem.

The visit comes just days ahead of the U.S. presidential elections and is expected to highlight the Obama administration’s involvement in Haiti, especially after the devastating January 2012 earthquake. It will take place on the day that President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney hold their final debate, this one focusing on foreign policy.

Long envisioned prior to the earthquake, the park was fast-tracked as a result sof the disaster with both the U.S. government and the International Development Bank pooling resources to create what they hope will be up to 65,000 jobs in the coming years. Just outside of the park is a new road, financed by the European Union.

To highlight what is being dubbed as aide-for-trade, Hillary Clinton will also visit a nearby housing site that is under construction and a recently built power plant that will serve the park and nearby communities. Both are financed by the U.S. Agency for International Development.

So far, about 900 Haitians, not including the construction workers still building factory shells, are employed inside the park. They recently completed the first t-shirts made there on behalf of Korean clothing manufacturer and main tenant Sae-A.

In addition to the Clintons, other attendees Monday include U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis.

Also taking place on Monday is a 24-person, four-day business development mission to Haiti’s capital led by County Commissioner Jean Monestime. Monestime, born in Haiti, is vice president of the county’s International Trade Consortium board of directors. The goal of the visit is to highlight the county’s assets as an international trade hub and to pursue commercial and business opportunities in Haiti, said Gerard Philippeaux, Monestime’s chief of staff. Representatives from the Miami-Dade Aviation Department and Port of Miami also will participating in the mission.

Wow, the president is doing illegal fund raising and I can only find an article in one newspaper. All of the other papers are talking about Mitt’s “Binders”. If anyone knows business, they would know that a CEO gets details of business decisions in binders so they can have a meeting and make decisions. Politicians might not understand actual decision making based on logic and information presented.

Given the campaign landscape, Axlerod is now instructing Obama to use ‘plan B’: Bain, Big Bird and Binders. That will keep the lefties babbling away and distracted from all the actual issues of the campaign, and then when they lose bigger than shi+ the puffington host and chris matthews can begin complaining that the election was stolen because the Big Bird issue was not effectively communicated to the voters. Obama is so done right now it is depressing.

Not looking so good for the unwanted president. Maybe he can score some points and explain himself positively tonight that will garner votes from some still siting on the fence. He can only hope…

Gallup chief: Our poll is ‘extremely solid’
Comments (136) By KATE NOCERA | 10/21/12 10:18 AM EDT Gallup Editor in Chief Frank Newport said on Sunday the polling company’s methodology is “extremely solid.”

Their most recent seven-day tracking poll showed Mitt Romney leading Barack Obama 51 percent to 45 percent among likely voters, when many other polls show the race to be dead even.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Newport was asked by host Chris Wallace what he made of the criticism from the Obama campaign that Gallup’s polling was “way out of line.”

“It’s not unusual, going back to Dr. George Gallup who founded our company…He found heated commentary from either side on polls, and I’ve certainly found it in the six election cycles going back to 1992,” Newport said. “People come at you from either side if they don’t like the results.”

“Our methodology is extremely solid. We’re very open about how we do it,” he added. “We’re doing great but it’s not unusual for people to bite back at you who don’t your findings.”

Newport also said that Gallup has never weighted their results by party affiliation.

“We do not weight by party at all. We never have and we don’t now,” he said. “We think party identification is an attitudinal variable that fluctuates just like who are you going to vote for.”

Yes- the media is trying very hard to sell the dead heat angle. In the 1967 film “A Guide for the Married Man,” a husband, played by a peerless Walter Matthau, is given lessons in ways to cheat on his wife safely. The most essential rule: “Deny! Deny! Deny!”—no matter what. In an instructive scene, he’s shown a wife undone by shock, and screaming, with reason: She has just walked in on her husband making love to a glamorous stranger.

“What are you doing,” she wails, “who is that woman?”

“What woman, where?” the husband serenely counters, as he and the tart in question get out of bed and calmly dress.

So the scene proceeds, with the distraught wife pointing to the woman she clearly sees before her, while her husband, unruffled, continues to look blankly at her, asking, “What woman?” Confused by her spouse’s unblinking assurance, she gives up. Two minutes later she’s asking him what he’d like for dinner.

For much of the past four years, the Obama administration’s propensity for asserting views of reality wildly at odds with those evident to most rational citizens has looked increasingly like a page from that film script.

All administrations conceal, falsify and tell lies—this is understood—but there’s no missing the distinctive quality of the prevaricating issuing from the White House in these four years.

It’s a quality on vivid display now in the administration’s mesmerizing narrative of the assault on the U.S. consulate in Libya. Here’s a memorable picture, its detail brutally illuminating, of Obama and company in crisis mode over their conflicting stories about who knew what when. The resulting costs to truth-telling and sanity, or even the appearance thereof, are clear. Nor can we forget the strong element of farce—think U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice on those five Sunday talk shows, reciting with unflagging fervor that official talking point regarding mob violence and a YouTube video. Farce, but no one is laughing.

Team Obama clung to its original story—the attack had come spontaneously at the hands of a mob enraged by that now famous video insulting to the Prophet—long after it was clear that it had been an organized terrorist assault by an al Qaeda affiliate. By Tuesday’s debate, we saw a Barack Obama in high dudgeon over suggestions that his office might have deliberately misrepresented the facts. It was, he fumed, an intolerable insult that such charges could have been made about him, the president who had had to receive the bodies of the slain Americans—and who then had to set about getting to the bottom of this murderous terror assault.

Profound and urgent concerns indeed—which, the president neglected to say, had not prevented him from jetting off to his fundraiser in Las Vegas the day after the murders. His administration was not given to politicizing serious matters, the president sternly informed the nation in that second debate: “That’s not what we do.”
